Recyctec is a Swedish based, publicly listed cleantech company specialised in recycling of glycol, both monoethylene glycol and monopropylene glycol. The company has developed our own unique method and process, that is operating on a full industrial scale. The operation is carried out in Recyctec’s own plant in Jönköping, where the products are blended, formulated and packed.
The process starts with collecting used glycol from different sources, and then through different steps in the process removing all contaminations, leaving purified glycol. The great benefit by doing this is reducing fossil feedstock, since virgin glycol is produced from crude oil. Glycol is also very suitable for recycling, since the glycol molecule is not damaged during usage, so as long as contaminations are removed, it can be used over and over again.
Recyctec was founded in 2005 based on the idea that one could manage the handling of used glycol a lot better that before. Then, and now, used glycol is considered as hazardous waste and should be disposed properly. The normal way of doing that is through incineration, but as used glycol contains a lot of water, it burns poorly. On the other hand glycol is one of the major chemicals with a very wide spectrum of usage – so if this could be solved – a big impact could be made.
Tests started – and as things went a long, an own method was developed. Today, Recyctec operates its own plant outside of Jönköping, has sales in Sweden and Norway and is trying to expand even further. The focus is on glycol in real estate usage and the company is aiming to grow in this segment.
Recyctec is selling its products under its own brand, EarthCare, and is today available at Ahlsells, one of the largest distributors in our sector, which both provides Recyctec wich coverage as well as some sort of proof of concept.
