With the help of AI-powered deposit stations, more people will be encouraged to recycle and get paid for their old mobile phones in Swedish supermarkets.

– We can reuse phones that are both broken and defective. It is a key component of the circular model. The more people who resell their old mobile phones, the more phones we can extend the life of and the better it will be for the environment, says Karin Armgarth, Marketing Manager at Swappie Sweden.

The AI-driven valuation is based on the mobile’s model, age and internal and external factors. It takes place in a few minutes and then the seller receives a price offer. If the customer is satisfied with the valuation and chooses to sell, the money is transferred to an account the following day.

– Thanks to the collaboration with ICA, there are now deposit stations deployed in selected supermarkets around the country where many people come several times a week. In addition, it is fast. The entire process from analysis, valuation and sale takes a few minutes, says Swappie expansion manager Max Hasselblatt.

-We have ambitious goals – we hope to pay out SEK 50 million to the Swedish recyclers every year, says Karin Armgarth.
