In many countries, cooking often leads to health problems due to toxic fumes that are created by cooking over an open fire and which also creates emissions into the atmosphere. Make It Green is the company that wants to create a greener future by giving people in developing countries access to a healthy solution and at the same time decrease emissions.

Solutions for a greener future

Make It Green researches and develops solutions within clean energy, water and agriculture to reduce the overall carbon footprint and improve people’s quality of life.

The company’s patented solution helps people in developing countries to live a healthy life by avoiding risks related to cooking smoke, dirty water & hunger. The stoves generate 85 % less smoke and only bamboo and residues from the agricultural industry are used while heating the stove.

The generated by-product, biochar, can be used to enrich the soil for agriculture, and thus a circular system is created. The biochar also binds nutrients, which reduces leakage of important nutrients needed in agriculture. The soil becomes more fertile and has better water holding capacity, which can greatly increase the harvests in dry conditions.

The cookstove can be easily adapted to the user’s needs to improve their quality of life. As an example, the cookstove is equipped with a USB port, which provides the user with electricity from renewable sources for i.e. charging a phone.

Factories in Malawi and Sierra Leone

Make It Green is currently involved in several projects outside of Sweden. Together with the Malawian company Going Green, Make It Green is setting up a factory to produce clean cookstoves in Malawi, which will not only make cooking cleaner and greener but also create jobs in Malawi.

The company also works with setting up a factory to produce clean cookstoves in Mapaki, Sierra Leone. Thousands of people in Sierra Leone die every year from diseases related to inhaling toxic smoke while cooking. Small diesel generators are used in the cooking process, leading to CO2 emissions, as well as deforestation of rainforest that is used for cooking. With Make It Green’s cookstove, the aim is to save lives and at the same time lower CO2 emissions and stop deforestation.

The company have had a successful year. Make It Green’s projects have been selected as 1 of 100 projects for the IVA Research2Business Program and this summer, the company got a patent for their cookstove.
