Gothenburg gets international attention on December 9 when the city receives an award in Shenzhen, China, for successful efforts in sustainable transport. The winning contribution is the silent, fossile-free electric bus ElectriCity, which is a result of collaboration between industry, academia and municipality.
The Euro-China Green & Smart City Award, CINEV 2016, highlights cities that have been successful within sustainable urban planning, connected city and mobility. Gothenburg is awarded in the sustainable transports and mobility category. The jury consists of Chinese and European representatives.
ElectriCity has brought forward knowledge in urban planning, electromobility, energy and connected solution for a future transport system run on electricity.
– The transition of the transport sector is necessary in order to reach a sustainable society and the cities of tomorrow. Sustainable public transport is an important piece of the puzzle. The Electricity project is a great example of cross-sectoral collaboration to reach these goals, says Niklas Gustafsson, Chief Sustainability Officer at Volvo.
