During the first four months of 2022, electric cars had the highest share of new cars bought in Sweden. When it comes to the EU, about 10 % of the total sales of new cars in the first quarter of 2022 were battery electric, according to Acea, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association.
The need for sustainable modes of transport is becoming increasingly critical in urban areas all over the world. For many countries, this means a challenge in transitioning to more sustainable options and creating charging infrastructure for alternative fuels. In Sweden, the goal is to decrease emissions from domestic transport by 70 % by 2030 compared to 2010 levels.
Electric cars are one way to decrease the amount of fossil fuels in the transport sector. Recently published statistics from Mobility Sweden show that in the first part of 2022, 27,4 % of the sold new cars in Sweden were electric, 24,9 % hybrid cars and 23,9 % petrol cars. The number of gas cars sold declined during the first quarter of the year.
In the EU, 8,9 % of the new cars sold in the first quarter of 2022 were plug-in hybrid cars, according to Acea. Romania is at the top when it comes to new electric cars sold, with an increase of 400 %. Spain almost doubled the sales of electric cars, and in France, the amount increased by 43 %.
