The Swedish Energy Agency’s new research and innovation program ‘The future of energy systems’ has been granted 552 million Swedish krona (€53,6 million). The mission is to find ways to meet challenges connected to increased electrification and the goals of creating a sustainable energy system.
The increased electrification of society puts pressure on the energy system and creates a need for new solutions. At the same time, variations in production and use of electricity create a need for more flexibility and storage.
– An important part of the program is about a holistic view linked to new challenges in the electrical systems and the needs that arise from increased electrification in society. To meet new expectations of the electricity system and to meet set energy and climate policy goals, a combination of new technology, new services and increased knowledge is needed, says Fredrik Brändström, Program Manager at the Swedish Energy Agency.
