Eneryield, a young company founded in Gothenburg in 2019, has created a solution that can detect power grid faults before they occur. The company has recently gained wide attention and was named one of the best startups in Sweden 2024.
Eneryield was founded by Johan Rådemar, Ebrahim Balouji, and Karl Bäckström. Its foundation is rooted in over a decade of research conducted by Ebrahim and Karl at the intersection of electrical engineering and computer science. They wanted to apply AI to power grid analysis to make it more efficient.
Recognizing the potential of their work, they brought the project to the Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship, where they met Johan Rådemar. During the early stages, the three visited numerous grid operators to understand their challenges and how the solution could address their needs. This journey led the founders to join the Chalmers Ventures accelerator program, which helped drive Eneryield forward.
The solution
IntelliView is Eneryield’s advanced AI-driven solution to predict and prevent power grid faults. By analyzing data from existing digital relays, power quality meters, PMUs etc., IntelliView forecasts potential issues with high accuracy and precision, enabling proactive maintenance and reducing downtime.
– A key feature of IntelliView is its sensorless Explainable AI (XAI) technology, which provides clear explanations for its predictions. This transparency allows operators to understand the root causes of potential faults, including the type, location, and timing, facilitating informed decision-making, says Johan Rådemar, co-founder and COO at Eneryield.
IntelliView integrates seamlessly into existing power networks without additional hardware, making it a cost-effective and efficient solution for enhancing grid reliability. By enabling a proactive approach to grid maintenance, IntelliView helps operators anticipate and address issues before they lead to outages, resulting in increased uptime, reduced operational costs, and extended asset lifespans.
– It is a product for a global market addressing a universal problem. We have seen great interest in our solution in South Europe, the Middle East and the USA, says Johan Rådemar.
In the spring of 2024, Eneryield raised seed funding from strategic partner ABB, technology leaders in electrification and automation, and Chalmers Ventures.
– The investment from ABB has been transformative for us, opening numerous opportunities. Through their support, we’ve had the chance to engage directly with many of their customers, gaining valuable insights. We’ve also tailored our solution to align seamlessly with ABB’s setup, enabling a more streamlined and effective approach when approaching end users.
Next for Eneryield is continuous product development and scaling of sales.
– During 2025 we will be meeting customers from all over the world to introduce our solution to them, Johan Rådemar concludes.
