Big Akwa is a Swedish food-tech company specializing in resource efficient aquaculture and industrial symbiosis. Big Akwa offers sustainable, healthy food at a lower cost.

To meet global challenges, we must transform the food system to deliver nutritious food within planetary boundaries. Fish are a highly efficient protein source, vital for feeding our growing population and with a very low CO2 footprint. Yet, traditional fish farming harms ecosystems, and strict regulations limit local production—forcing the EU and UK to import 65-70% of their fish.

Big Akwa’s net-zero solution introduces a circular fish production model based on industrial symbiosis. By integrating new technologies, sharing resources, and utilizing existing infrastructure, the company is able to cut costs, reduce environmental impact, and ensure no nutrient discharge—delivering sustainable, high-quality food efficiently — an innovative concept that benefits both people and the planet.

Big Akwa’s business model drives global growth through circular aquaculture, leveraging its innovative “plant-as-a-product” concept. By co-locating with hydrogen producers and pulp mills, their waste streams are utilized, cutting costs by more than 20% while enhancing net-zero impact. This strategic integration ensures resource efficiency and environmental benefits. With the global fish market growing 5% annually, this scalable model enables rapid expansion in high-demand regions like Europe, USA, Asia and beyond, securing long-term viability through sustainable, locally produced seafood.

Over the past year, Big Akwa has advanced sustainable aquaculture. The company has secured land for an 80 MEUR project, perfected its technology, approved permit for 6 000 tons annually at the site Alby site in Ånge. The company also went public, expanded its shareholder base, and added a CSO, IR & PR specialist, and CTO.

Big Akwa’s first project in Ånge Sweden is in the preconstruction phase—a land-based rainbow trout farm co-located with a hydrogen plant. Set to produce 6,000 tons annually by 2027, it aims to cut CO2 emissions and recycle 1 million m³ of greywater yearly. Offtake agreements have been initiated to secure sustainable growth.

By owning its core technologies and qualifying for grants, Big Akwa ensures strategic control and recurring revenue. With a 600 million EURO market in Sweden and 80 billion EURO globally, its scalable model enables rapid growth and long-term leadership.
