Nattaro Labs is a Swedish company that carries out world-class research to develop innovative products and sustainable solutions to combat the growing global problem of bed bugs. Through a combination of our own evidence-based research, innovative product development and close partnerships with pest control companies and other strategic partners from other industries, Nattaro Labs currently has a unique position as a product developing, bed bug specialist on the international market. The company was founded in 2011 and can today be found in the innovative environment in Medicon Village in Lund. Its strategic location gives access to expertise within several subject areas, which are represented among the other companies in the area, in addition to the advantages of being close to Lund University.

Challenges are to be solved with knowledge and creativity. That was our starting point when Nattaro Labs was registered as a company in April 2011. Following the globalisation and increased travels, including migration, there had been a huge resurgence of bed bug infestations in the western world and existing treatment methods had become less and less effective as the bed bugs developed resistance. So new solutions and strategies were needed. The four founders, Dr Camilla Ryne, Magnus Bäckmark, Carl-Magnus Hansson and Christine Dahlman Jacobsen began investigating potential solutions. They visited infested apartments and properties, interviewed the people affected and investigated how the pest control of bed bugs was conducted. A close partnership with pest control companies and their customers was established early on.This curiosity, combined with Dr Ryne’s knowledge of bed bugs, Magnus’ long experience of product development, Carl-Magnus’ expertise in industrialisation and Christine’s skills within business development, added to a large dose of creativity, led to the birth of the patented product, Nattaro Safe. The founders met in 2010 on the Entrepreneurship program, run by the Life Science/Mobile Heights Business Center, through Mobile Heights at Ideon in Lund. The company has run its operations from Medicon Village since 2012. Nattaro Labs is a product development firm, which works to develop innovative products and sustainable solutions to combat the growing global problem of bed bugs. The work is based on solid knowledge and long experience in all stages of the development process, from concept development and prototype construction to completed volume production and industrialisation.

The company undertakes its own projects as well as with selected partners in a carefully planned process with follow-ups and quality assurance at every stage. A focus on innovation combined with evidence-based research has meant that on several occasions Nattaro Labs has been granted financial support from Vinnova, among other institutions, to carry out innovation projects together with renowned partners, covering design, material selection and chemical ecology and that have resulted in unique own-developed product concepts and patents.

The product development strategy also consists of long-term IPR work with design pattern protection as well as patents granted in Sweden and internationally. Guiding principles are user-friendliness as well as attractive and functional design, in close collaboration with development partners, the industry and customers. Nattaro Labs currently holds a unique position as a product developing, bed bug specialist on the international market. Our development projects and ongoing patent applications are part of a clearly expressed ambition to reinforce our position further.
