Västtrafik is part of an EU project for testing intelligent, energy-efficient and passenger-friendly bus service innovations across 12 cities in Europe. The most effective solutions are expected to create new market opportunities for cutting-edge technology in public transport.

Lowering operating costs, reducing carbon emissions and enabling public transport authorities to offer more integrated transport solutions are objectives of the project. Real service demonstrations will involve more than 500 buses in 12 European cities. The project will receive nearly €10 million in EU funding and run until April 2018.

“We will also test adaptable eco-driving support systems that take into account that bus drivers need to keep to tight schedules and stop frequently. New IT solutions that inform drivers of how they are performing will encourage greener driving behaviour,” says EU project coordinator Michele Tozzi.
