A Stockholm-based company has developed a solution that captures up to 95% of thermal energy from wastewater, significantly reducing energy costs for properties. Now, the company is planning to scale up production and prepare for an international expansion.
Behind this innovation is Ecoclime Group, a Swedish company that develops solutions for energy-smart, climate-positive buildings. With both headquarters and manufacturing in Sweden, Ecoclime’s portfolio spans thermal energy recovery, indoor climate systems, and geoenergy integration, supporting the global transition to zero-emission properties.
The solution

Robert Aldrich, CEO
At the heart of Ecoclime’s offering is a system that captures and recycles up to 95% of the thermal energy in wastewater, a previously overlooked resource. This energy is reused within the building, drastically reducing the need for purchased heat and lowering operational costs.
“Modern buildings already have efficient ventilation and insulation – yet 30 to 50% of heat still disappears down the drain. However, it is possible to close that loop,” says Robert Aldrich, CEO at Ecoclime. “Unlike solar energy, wastewater heat is available 24/7 – especially during cold winters when energy prices are highest.”
Scalable and circular by design
The solution developed by Ecoclime features maintenance-free heat exchangers, optimized heat pumps, and intelligent control units, all tailored to the specific building. It works in both new builds and retrofits, often in synergy with geoenergy for even greater performance.
Beyond heat recovery, the company also delivers draft-free indoor climate panels, replacing traditional cooling beams in commercial properties. All these innovations contribute to Ecoclime’s larger ambition to make thermal energy usage circular.
From energy savings to financial upside
Ecoclime’s systems help clients meet tightening energy regulations while unlocking green financing, higher net operating income, and increased property value.
Having installed systems in residential, public, and commercial buildings across Sweden, Ecoclime delivers consistent energy savings and double-digit returns. The company also offers a full-service model – from design to installation and long-term maintenance.
What’s next?
Amid regulatory pressure and volatile energy prices, demand for sustainable energy solutions is growing among cooperative housing associations, property developers, municipalities, and large property owners. In response, Ecoclime plans to scale further across these segments in 2025 while also beginning to prepare for international expansion:
“We’re working with partners to accelerate adoption and ensure that every property owner can harness the full potential of thermal energy recovery,” concludes Robert Aldrich.
